“Wild” Will Have East Coast Premiere at Hamptons International Film Festival

The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) has announced Jean-Marc Vallée’s film, “Wild” will have its East Coast premiere as the Southampton opener of the festival on Friday, October 10. Actress Laura Dern, who stars in the film with Reese Witherspoon, will appear at the premiere and HIFF’s signature program, “A Conversation With …” on Saturday, October 11 at Sag Harbor’s Bay Street Theatre.

“Wild” is an adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s best-selling 2012 memoir detailing the 1,000 mile plus hike Strayed took along the Pacific Crest Trail after battling a heroin addiction as her life spiraled out of control following the death of her mother, played by Ms. Dern.

HIFF also announced last week that Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher” will be Saturday’s centerpiece film at the festival, playing at Guild Hall in East Hampton on October 11. The film stars Mark Ruffalo, who will appear in “A Conversation With …” on Sunday, October 12 at 2 p.m. at Bay Street Theater.

“Foxcatcher” is also based on true events and follows Olympic gold medal-winning wrestler Mark Schultz, played by Channing Tatum and his brother Dave, played by Ruffalo, as they fall into the orbit of an eccentric multi-millionaire, John du Pont, played by Steve Carell.

“Wild” and “Foxcatcher” join “The Homesman,” which was previously announced as the Sunday centerpiece film at HIFF.

“Bennett Miller and Jean-Marc Vallée are two of the most exciting filmmakers working today, each of whose last films were nominated for the Academy Award® for Best Picture,” said HIFF Artistic Director David Nugent. “Their latest films continue their evolution as artists and we are so proud to share their work with our audiences.”
