The Sag Harbor Whalers of the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League (HCBL) started off the season with seven straight wins, a streak that was broken with a 9-2 loss to the Riverhead Tomcats on Sunday, June 9. In the loss to Riverhead, pitchers Aljo Sujak (Northwest Florida State) and Zach White (NYIT) were tagged for four runs apiece and the Whalers’ offense was held to just five hits.
Prior to that, Sag Harbor had been on a tear with wins over every other team in the league and a record 7-0 start to an HCBL season. Peter Marren (Bucknell) was hitting .429 as of Tuesday and Lucas Stalman (Boston College) was at .364.
Next up for the Whalers is a rematch at Riverhead on Friday, June 14, at 5 p.m. and a second road game at Southampton on Saturday, also at 5 p.m. Sag Harbor will host the Westhampton Aviators at Mashashimuet Park on Sunday at 5 p.m.
