“Thank you, Sag Harbor!”

Those were the words of John Jermain Memorial Library Director Catherine Creedon following a budget vote and trustee election that approved the libraries spending plan for 2017, with 159 votes in favor of the $2.596 million  budget and just 17 residents casting ballots opposed to it.

Incumbent board president Nick Gazzolo was re-elected to the board with 133 votes, as was incumbent Alison Bond with 142 votes. Newcomer Dan Glass also earned a place on the board, earning the most votes in an uncontested race for three trustee seats with 144 votes.

“It seems fitting that this year’s vote was held during Banned Book Week, the annual celebration of libraries unwavering commitment to protecting intellectual freedom for the communities we serve,” said Ms. Creedon in an email following the vote. “It was our first public vote in the restored building, and a day of very moving moments, including the sight of our teen writers coming in to vote after school.”
