In celebration of “National Take Your Dog to Work” Day on Friday, June 26, Hamptons Doc Fest founder/executive director Jacqui Lofaro is making “Pick of the Litter” this week’s “Fest Favorite” documentary available on its hamptonsdocfest.com website.
“Pick of the Litter” (2018, 81 min.), directed by Don Hardy, Jr., and Dana Nachman, was screened at Hamptons Doc Fest’s five-day film festival in December 2018. It follows a litter of puppies from the moment they are born through their two-year journey to become guide dogs for the blind. The stakes are high and not every dog can make the cut—only the best, the pick of the litter. Also on the website will be the post-film Q&A with Sally Scranton, longtime guide dog raiser with the Guide Dog Foundation on Long Island.
Still available via the website, most with Q&As from the directors’ appearances at the film festival in previous years, are, “Penny and Red: The Life of Secretariat’s Owner,” “Terrence McNally: Every Act of Life,” “Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am,” “In Search of Israeli Cuisine,” “Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise,” “The Biggest Little Farm,” “Three Identical Strangers,” “The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution,” “Spielberg,” “Life, Animated,” “Very Semi-Serious,” “Free Solo,” “To a More Perfect Union: U.S. v. Windsor,” “Marvin Booker Was Murdered,” the new first-run documentary “Beyond the Visible: Hilma af Klint,” and “Dads” for Father’s Day.
