For the second consecutive season, the East Hampton girls swim team has won the League III title with a perfect 5-0 record. The final showdown came on Thursday, October 18, at the YMCA in East Hampton, where the Lady Bonackers took down visiting Harborfields, 92-76, to close out the league schedule.

“The meet against Harborfields had some very exciting races that had some very closely contested finishes,” head coach Craig Brierley said, calling the back-to-back league titles and undefeated records “a wonderful accomplishment and a testament to the hard work the athletes put in all season.”

East Hampton won seven of 11 events and placed a number of swimmers in the top three of most events. Pierson sophomore Kiara Bailey-Williams had another strong performance, finishing second in the 200-yard IM in 2:27.96, which qualified her for the Section XI Championship meet at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood on November 3.  Following the meet, Bailey-Williams was named by her teammates as “Swimmer of the Meet.”

Pierson sophomore Kiara Bailey-Williams waits to hear if her time in the 200-yard Individual Medley was good enough to qualify for the Suffolk County Championships.

“Prior to the start of the meet, Kiara had yet to qualify for the County Championship Meet,” Brierley said. “All season Kiara had been working very hard at practice and was always giving her best efforts both at practice and in meets to earn a qualifying time.  When she touched the wall in the 200 IM, she asked, ‘Did I get it?’  When she was told she had gotten it she was thrilled and relieved at the same time. The captains wanted to be sure to let Kiara know that her efforts were admired and appreciated.”

With the league meet behind them, the team turn its attention to the League III Championship meet, which was held on Wednesday after press time at Harborfields High School. The Suffolk County meet at Brentwood will begin at 10 a.m. on November 3.
