Nearly 200 volunteers of all ages filled 2,000 new backpacks with school supplies for low income children on the East End at the UJA-Federation of New York’s annual Supplies for Success backpack assembly event last Wednesday, August 29, at The Ross Lower School field house in Bridgehampton.
The backpacks were distributed through community partners including Bridgehampton Childcare and Recreation, the Bridgehampton School, the Butterfly Effect Project, Eastern Suffolk BOCES, Eastern Farmworkers, the Hamptons Art Camp, the Haven House/Bridges Homeless Shelter, HELP Suffolk Homeless Shelter, the Springs School, the Riverhead School District, the Southampton School District and The Retreat. Through Supplies for Success, now in its 17thyear, volunteers have filled over 80,000 backpacks in an effort to ensure children can begin the school year successfully. This year’s event was co-chaired by Jill Bodian and Mindy Richenstein of Sagaponack.
