Stony Brook Southampton Hospital held its annual flu shot clinic in Parrish Memorial Hall on Wednesday, October 10. Nurses and medical residents administered vaccines to 312 adults throughout the day.

To ensure as many people on the South Fork as possible receive their vaccine for the upcoming season, the Hospital will be holding additional free flu shot clinics at the Shinnecock Indian Health Clinic on Church Street on the Shinnecock Indian Nation Reservation on Thursday, October 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. Another clinic will be held on Friday, November 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Montauk Library on Montauk Highway in Montauk. The clinics are open to adults ages 18 and older and appointments are not necessary.

“A 2018 study shows that risk of hospitalization with the flu reduced 37 percent thanks to the vaccine, and risk of Intensive Care Unit admission with the flu reduced 82 percent,” said Deborah Maile, RN, Director of Infection Prevention at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. “Flu vaccination is the best way to protect against the flu and flu-related complications.”
