Sports Wrap: Whalers Play Wednesday, Jordan’s Run Sunday, 12 Meters in Sag Harbor

Jordan’s Run is Sunday

The second annual Jordan’s Run: Veterans’ Memorial 5K Run/Walk will take place on Sunday, July 29, with check-in beginning at Pierson High School at 7 a.m. The race is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. Online registration is $35 at Registration on the day of the race is $40, payable by cash or check only.

Whalers Get Into Postseason 

The Sag Harbor Whalers of the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League slid into the postseason with a rocky 2-6-2 record in its final 10 games to claim the fifth and final spot in the playoffs. The Whalers (17-18-5) were scheduled to face Shelter Island in a one-game playoff on Wednesday after press time, with the winner advancing to a four-team playoff round that also includes Riverhead, which won the regular season with a 24-13-3 record, Long Island (25-15) and Westhampton (20-19-1).  The winner of the Sag Harbor-Shelter Island game will face Riverhead in a best-of-three series starting Thursday, July 26, while Westhampton and Long Island will square off in the other semifinal series. The HCBL Championship series will also be best out of three. It is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 30, and run through Wednesday, August 1, if necessary. 

12-Meter Boats Return to Sag Harbor  

The New York Harbor Sailing Foundation will return to Sag Harbor with its historic 12-Meter yachts on Wednesday, August 1, to join the Breakwater Yacht Club’s regular Wednesday Night Sailing Series. The US 22 and 46 yachts, both of which were built for the 1987 America’s Cup, will be visible in the early evening from Long Wharf and Marine Park as they race in the waters off the Sag Harbor breakwater.
