DiRussa Scores Two in Victory
Pierson’s Bella DiRussa scored two goals and added an assist as the East Hampton girls soccer team knocked off Amityville, 4-1, on Thursday, October 13. In the same game, East Hampton’s Kelly Rodriguez set a new school record with her 15th goal of the season. The Lady Bonackers, who lost, 4-0, to Comsewogue a day later to fall to 5-10 on the season, closed out the season on Wednesday, October 19, at Rocky Point.
Mariners Football Beats Mercy
The Southampton football team scored a huge 36-14 win over McGann-Mercy on Saturday afternoon to improve to 2-3 on the season. Aaron Napier Jr. rushed for 335 yards and three touchdowns as the Mariners, whose ranks include players from Pierson, rode a big second half to victory.
While the playoff situation is still very much up for grabs, with the top eight teams from Division IV qualifying for the postseason, Southampton will likely have to win two of its last three games to have a shot. The team will host Port Jefferson on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., before closing out the season at home against Hampton Bays on Saturday, October 22, and at Greenport on Friday, October 28.
Swimmers Dominate Stony Brook in Latest Win
Pierson eighth-grader Kiara Bailey-Williams was one of many members of the East Hampton girls swim team to score victories in a runaway 52-39 win over Stony Brook on Friday, October 14, as the Lady Bonackers improved to 3-1 in League III, and 3-3 overall with just one regular season meet remaining. Baily-Williams won the 100-yard breaststroke in a personal-best time of 1:17.91 as East Hampton won 10 of the 11 total events contested.
East Hampton hosted Harborfields on Wednesday, October 19, at the YMCA in East Hampton, where seniors, including Pierson’s Alyssa Kneeland, will be celebrated. The League III Championships will be held Thursday, October 27, at Hauppauge High School, with the county meet held at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood on November 5.
Golf Team Cruises Against William Floyd
The Pierson golf team easily defeated William Floyd, 9-0, at the Rock Hill Golf Club on Thursday, October 13. Senior Jack Brown shot a 39 in the top spot, with Matt Burke (39), Tom Brooks (44), Henry Brooks (45), Tyler LaBorne (44) and E.J. Burke (44) all winning matches in the top six spots. As a team, the Whalers outshot Floyd, 210-254. The team will close out the regular season at the Noyac Golf Club on Thursday, October 20, against the Ross School, with the conference and county championships set for later this month and early next month.
