The Bridgehampton School District has canceled after-school activities on Tuesday, including the varsity boys basketball game, and the Sag Harbor School District has canceled after-school activities and put winter bus stops in effect due to the inclement weather in the area.

The Bridgehampton boys basketball game, a Suffolk County Class D final against Shelter Island, has been rescheduled to Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Center Moriches High School.

Our Lady of the Hamptons in Southampton has also canceled after-school activities.

Sag Harbor Superintendent Katy Graves said she wants students and staff to “get home safely and stay home.”

“Originally the forecast was for it to turn to rain, but it has shifted so that we’re having a longer snow event and potentially some freezing rain,” she said by phone on Tuesday. “You always want to put safety first.”

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for southeastern Suffolk County that is in effect through midnight. Mixed precipitation is expected, including two to three inches of snow, with winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour in the early evening.

“A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving,” the National Weather Service said in its announcement.
