There is nothing illegal about cannabidiol. And that’s because nothing about it will get you high.
Unlike THC — the cannabinoid with the legendary power of producing euphoric sensations — cannabidiol, or CBD, is inert. But because it adopts some of marijuana’s pain-killing properties, it is the perfect candidate for, say, a delicious tea or latte.
In partnership with Dobra Tea, that is precisely what Harbor Books has created.
“What we do is we have hemp flour, which is a CBD product, and we make a tea out of it, and a latte. It tastes like it’s a traditional herb,” Harbor Books owner Taylor Rose Berry said. “There’s nothing you can really compare it to,” she said. “It’s definitely got an earthy taste, but no more than, I would say, a dandelion root or anything else. We do it with a little bit of our local honey and oat milk.”
According to some experts, CBD is the future of naturopathic medicine, Berry said, having been known to stop epileptic seizures and used to treat Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis.
“Basically, it has all the properties of a cannabis plant, without any of the high, loopy ones, so it can help every different neurological disorder or disease you can possibly imagine,” Berry said. “It’s definitely got the calming qualities — a lot of people use it prior to sleep — and it’s also considered a wonderful pain reliever. It’s a really cool thing that we’re happy to offer from our partners at Dobra.”
Lattes are available for $9 at the Sag Harbor bookstore, located at 20 Main Street. For more information, please call (631) 808-3401 or visit harborbookssgh.com.
