Flying a kite may be the ultimate carefree pastime — at least it is for Mimi Gallagher.
“You’re always looking up when you’re flying a kite,” she said. “You’re not worrying. You’re always lookin’ up.”
Gallagher, who owns Kites of the Harbor with Charlene Katz, is stocking the longtime Sag Harbor fixture with traditional flyers, like the Trick & Track stunt kite for $149, and wackier models, such as the colorful, easy-to-fly unicorn kite for $34.99 — a great pick for beginners, she said.
Their scary skeleton kites will come in two sizes — 13-footers for $55 and a whopping 21 feet for $75 — and a new laughing emoji kite can lighten the mood for $22.
“It started as a kite store, but basically, we sell fun,” Gallagher said. “It’s fun and happiness. Everything in there is frivolous and fun and interesting and different. We have generations of people that are now grandparents, who used to be kids coming in. This is our 39thseason. It’s been a long time, so we’ve evolved.”
Kites of the Harbor is located at 75 Main Street in Sag Harbor. For more information, please call (631) 725-9063.
