For the first time in their careers, John Torreano and Gustavo Bonevardi each have a solo gallery exhibition on the East End — at the same place, and the same time.
On view starting Friday, May 11, at The Drawing Room in East Hampton, Torreano’s “Gold Gems Balls” highlights selected paintings and sculptural reliefs dating from 1984 to 1990, showing a distinctive process that incorporates painting, cutting, sanding and assemblage in works that “bridge the boundary between painting and sculpture and transport the viewer to cosmic, contemplative spaces,” a press release said.
He divides his time between studios in New York, Sag Harbor and Abu Dhabi, and has widely exhibited in museums such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Parrish Art Museum and the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
Also on display is Bonevardi’s “New Watercolors,” an expansive selection of abstract watercolors created over the past year in his East Hampton studio.
“Through a carefully choreographed yet intuitive process that represents the culmination of a decade of experimentation, Bonevardi coaxes clusters of pigments into compositions that seem to have landed magically on the page,” the press release said. “The delicate abstractions that result have hints of botanical structures and a rigor that attests to Bonevardi’s masterful understanding of his medium.”
Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and by appointment. For more information, please call (631) 324-5016 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
