Bethany Semlear, a 2007 graduate of Pierson High School, has been tapped as the new head varsity field hockey coach at Pierson High School, according to Sag Harbor School Superintendent Katy Graves, who said the appointment would be made official at a special meeting of the Board of Education on Monday.
Semlear, who after graduating from Pierson went on to play Division I field hockey at the University of Connecticut, will replace longtime coach Shannon Judge, who led the program to its first ever New York State title in 2013.
Joining Semlear on the high school field hockey front will be another Sag Harbor local, Kayla Yardley, who will coach the junior varsity team. A third native of the area, Daniel Garvey, is expected to be tapped as the new middle school girls soccer coach at Monday’s meeting.
