Center Stage at Southampton Cultural Center will hold open auditions for Burt Bachrach and Hal David’s “Promises, Promises” on January 8 and January 9 at 6 p.m. at Southampton Cultural Center in Veteran’s Hall. The book is by Neil Simon and Michael Bennett created the original choreography. Michael Disher will direct the play with Amanda Borsack Jones as the musical director.
Auditions with readings from the script will occur promptly and participants are asked to prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre or pop standard and wear comfortable clothing to learn a dance combination. Performances will run March 9 through 26 and “Promises, Promises” will be put on in a staged concert format.
The cast size is flexible with various ages and vocal types needed. Roles include Chuck Baxter, an office worker with aspirations, Fran Kubelik, an executive dining room waitress and mistress to J.D. Sheldrake, J.D. Sheldrake, a personnel manager and Chuck’s boss, Dr. Dreyfuss, Chuck’s neighbor, Marge MacDougall a bar acquaintance, Dobitch, Kirkeby, Eichelberger and Vanderhof, executives at Consolidated Life, Vivien, Miss Polansky and Miss Wong, secretaries at Consolidated Life, Fran’s brother Karl, Mrs. Sheldrake and Miss Olsen, Sheldrake’s secretary.
A large chorus of men and women is also needed to portray executives and secretaries with 1960s harmonies and a sense of bossa nova rhythms preferred. For more information, please contact Michael Disher at email@example.com.
