Dr. Fitzgerald Bramwell and Jeffrey Peters confirmed this week they have resigned from the village Harbor Committee — the latest in a string of resignations and a reshuffling of the regulatory boards in Sag Harbor over the course of the last month.
Dr. Bramwell, a three-year member of the committee who is the member manager for Empire Science Resources and has had a storied career in the sciences at a number of universities, said Wednesday his resignation was “a business and personal decision.”
“I think we were exceptionally effective,” he said of his time on the committee. “I think some of the water quality initiatives we pursued will serve the village well now and in the future.”
Mr. Peters, who served on the board for well over a dozen years and is the owner of JCP Landscaping, said his resignation largely stemmed from feeling disrespected by village trustees when he was not asked to serve as the committee chairperson following the resignation of John Shaka — who moved over to the planning board in the wake of the resignation of Gregory Ferraris.
“While I did not necessarily want to be the chairman, it would have been nice to have been asked after 14 years and everything we have worked so hard to accomplish,” he said. “It felt like a snub.”
Committee member Mary Ann Eddy was tapped by the village board to serve as the chairperson of the harbor committee.
“I do wish there was greater communication between the village trustees and the harbor committee — I wish it was better than it has been,” Mr. Peters said, “but other than that I respect everyone on the committee. I loved the work and gave it 100 percent. I think we were instrumental in getting a lot of important projects accomplished for residents. I enjoyed it tremendously and loved working for the village residents. This was a tough decision.”
