A Sag Harbor man suffered an apparent medical emergency while driving on Flying Point Road and was pronounced dead after he drove into shallow waters of Mecox Bay in Water Mill on Thursday, Southampton Town police said Monday.

First responders found Dennis R. Kelly, 73, unconscious in the driver’s seat of his pickup truck, which had rolled onto its passenger side and was lying in about two feet of water off the bulkhead near Luther Drive, according to Southampton Town Det. Sgt. Lisa Costa. Multiple 911 calls came in shortly before 5 p.m., she said.

The vehicle was pushed onto its wheels so the driver could be pulled from the vehicle, and emergency medical personnel with the Southampton Fire Department began performing CPR.

Mr. Kelly was transported to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Det. Sgt. Costa said after a preliminary investigation, police believe he suffered a medical emergency while driving.
