Sag Harbor singer-songwriter Nancy Remkus will release her latest children’s CD “Songs for Growing” at a concert on Saturday, November 21 at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse on the Sag Harbor Bridgehampton Turnpike. “Songs for Growing” is a double CD that features “In My Backyard” for listening and singing along as well as songs “In My Schoolyard” for dancing, moving and playing rhythm instruments.
This concert will benefit “Katy’s Courage.” One of the songs premiered on this CD is “Katy’s Song” a song that Nancy wrote about a Sag Harbor Elementary student Katy Stewart, who died in 2012 after battling a rare form of liver cancer. Katy’s Courage, founded in 2012, is dedicated to education and support for families and children through scholarships, children’s bereavement support and pediatric cancer research.
This is Ms. Remkus’s fourth CD and its songs are filled with heart and spirit. One of the founders of Sag Harbor Elementary School’s very popular, “Morning Program” where all students, teachers, administrators and family members start each and every day together in the gymnasium singing and celebrating life, Ms. Remkus was also the 1989 recipient of the Suffolk County Performing Artist of the Year Award.
Tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for children. Visit katyscourage.org for more information.
