From Friday, August 7, to Sunday, August 9, New York City-based Shin Gallery in collaboration with Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons is pleased to present “Pollock, Motherwell and Friends: Hamptons Curiosity Room,” an immersive pop-up exhibition featuring the work of Jackson Pollock, Congo, Robert Motherwell, Carla Prina, Andreas Emenius, Joseph Stella and Georges Lepape, among many others.
The exhibition aims to curate an immersive collector experience inside an alternative space — a Greek orthodox church. Two intimate rooms inside the church will be filled with artworks as if inside a collector’s home. The exhibition will be on view daily during the three days from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. For private tours, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
From Art Nouveau to contemporary, a diverse selection of art work will be displayed at the show. Work by iconic artists such as Jackson Pollock will be placed alongside that of Carla Prina, a female pioneer and a rediscovered painter of Italian Abstraction. Prina’s work was exhibited in the 1942 Venice Biennale and she was a dear friend of Joan Miró. The exhibition highlights both under-recognized and emerging artists all while placing them amongst art historical figures.
The three-day exhibition will include “The Art of Collecting,” an exclusive discussion event with ARTNews Top 200 World Art Collector Hong Gyu Shin moderated by Stavroula Coulianidis that will take place on Friday, August 7, from 5 to 6 p.m. The discussion will be held in the Muses Room at the church. An opening reception will follow. To reserve seats for the discussion or other inquiries, please email email@example.com.
Visitors to the exhibition are asked to donate to the church, as the current pandemic crisis has forced the cancellation of vital fundraising events including the Hamptons Greek Festival and several Sunday services.
The church ministry will also be hosting its annual Greek Night Out on Sunday, August 9, from 5 to 9 p.m. with an array of Greek food available and spacious outdoor seating on the church lawn. Guests may stop by, or with the online menu, order meals in advance to dine in or take out by visiting hamptonsgreekmarket.com.
Please note, the church will be taking the necessary precautions to ensure staff and visitors’ safety. In adherence to public guidelines, masks and social distancing will be required.
