Ariana Moustakas, a senior flutist at Pierson High School has been selected to perform with the All-State Symphonic Band and the All-County Symphony Orchestra.

“Being selected to perform is an extraordinary achievement,” said Eric Reynolds, band director at Pierson.

Moustakas, who has been playing the flute since fourth grade, said she’s extremely honored to be chosen to perform at these two prestigious festivals.

“It gives me incentive to continue to play and pursue my goals,” she said.

In addition to playing in Pierson’s band, the Sag Harbor musician also sings in the school’s chorus under the direction of Suzanne Nicoletti. Furthermore she studies flute with LuAnn Peskanov in East Islip. She also concertizes with the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, performing at venues including Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. Additionally, she is a regular performer at the annual Classical Students for Katy’s Courage fundraiser.

In addition to her music, Moustakas volunteers her time for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, is a member of her school’s yearbook club and is a Girl Scout, working toward her Gold Award.
