The Pierson boys and girls cross country teams competed at the division championships at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park on Thursday, October 28.
P.J. Ramundo placed fourth in the boys Division IV Championship race in 18:06.4. He was the only Pierson runner, boy or girl, to compete in the championship race. He was 34th overall in the county.
The rest of the Pierson boys competed in the team qualifying race. Justin Gardiner led the Whalers, finishing 15th overall out of 179 runners in 19:14.60. The following Pierson’s finishers were Mike Ramundo (50th/19:54.90); Coleman Dee (71st/20:23.90); Griffin Greene (85th/20:42.20); Chad Federico (124th/21:35.80); Lance Schroeder (128th/21:40.30); and David Kriegsman (133rd/21:43.70). Pierson finished 15th out of 23 teams in the team qualifier race and 27th overall in the county.
The Pierson girls competed in the team qualifier race as well and finished 12th out of 18 teams. Sara O’Brien led the pack by finishing in 23:41.50, which placed her 21st. Hannah Ramundo (56th/25:21.90); Sabrina McManus (94th/26:34.80); Luna Desir (98th/26:44.90); Abby Sherwood (99th/26:47.40); Maddie Cohen (119th/28.14.50); and Lizzie Hallock (123rd/28:50.90) all followed.
Both Pierson boys and girls will be back at Sunken Meadow on Friday, November 5, looking to defend their Class D county titles. Racing begins at 1 p.m.
