The Pierson baseball team dominated its competition this past spring, going into the playoffs with a 14-1 League VI record that eventually culminated in a Suffolk County Championship and an entry into the Long Island Championship, which it lost to Nassau County Champion Wheatley.
Three Whalers were named All-County, including Tucker Schiavoni, who was also named League VI MVP, along with Daniel Labrozzi and Christian Pantina. Reed Kelsey, Jackson Sabbeth and Dominick Mancino were named All-League. Truman Yardley was named All-Academic.
The South Fork boys lacrosse team, comprised of student-athletes from Bridgehampton, East Hampton, Pierson, the Ross School and Southampton, broke through this past spring to clinch their first ever postseason berth since coming together as a program. For doing so, the program was heavily rewarded with a number of postseason awards.
The Islanders were given the Crosse Award, which goes to the team that most exceeds preseason expectations. On the individual side, Hudson Brindle and Luke Marro were named All-County and All-Division, while Bryan Pannasch was named Honorable Mention All-County and All-Division. Chance Brindle and Jack Cooper were each named All-Division, while Cooper Brindle, Aiden Cooper, Charlie Corwin, Jack Freel and Zac Mobius were Second Team All-Division.
Head coach Matt Babb was named Varsity Coach of the Year and junior varsity head coach Jaron Greenidge was named JV Coach of the Year. Rising junior Chance Brindle, with rising sophomores Jack Cooper, Corwin and Luke Castillo, were selected through tryouts to represent Suffolk County in the Suffolk-Nassau All-Star Game and also for the New York State Regional Games. Corwin, additionaly, was selected to represent Long Island in the Under Armour All-America Underclass Tournament.
Grace Perello was an Honorable Mention All-County selection for the East Hampton/Pierson girls lacrosse team. Asha Hokanson and Lucy Short were All-Division, Emma McGrory was named the team’s Unsung Hero and Ava Tintle made the All-Rookie Team.
Bella Espinoza (pole vault) and Penelope Greene (3,000-meter race) earned All-County and All-League honors in their respective events this past spring competing for the East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton girls track team. Dylan Cashin (1,500-meter race), Leslie Samuel (long jump), Meredith Spolarich (high jump) and Bella Tarbet (100-meter hurdles) each earned All-League honors, with Tarbet also earning Academic All-County.
East Hampton sophomore Max Astilean reached the quarterfinals of the Suffolk County Boys Tennis Individual Championships earning All-County honors in the process. East Hampton freshman Nick Cooper also finished in the top 16 to earn All-County honors. East Hampton senior R.J. Jones and Pierson senior Jackson LaRose were an All-County doubles pair.
