To inspire her students to always be kind to others, Sag Harbor Elementary School first-grade teacher Chelsea King fashioned together a kindness quilt that is now on display in the school.

Measuring 8 feet by 7 feet, the colorful felt quilt features encouraging quotes written by students in grades 3-5. Among the adages are, “Kindness is not what you get, it is what you give” and “One kind word can change someone’s entire day.”

King said she came up with the idea for the quilt as a means of reinforcing this year’s school theme, “Sag Harbor Sparkles: Kindness Counts.”
