James Wesley Stewart, Jr., originally from Lake City, South Carolina, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at age 59 on July 7, 2010 in Sag Harbor. Mr. Stewart graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. with a B.A. in history in 1972. He went on to earn his law degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, La. In 1985, he was granted an MS in Science and Business from the Stanford University School of Business in Palo Alto, Calif.
Most recently, Mr. Stewart was volunteering as a development director of the Old Whalers Church in Sag Harbor. As part of his work, he organized the “Celebration of the Arts” series as well as other programs to benefit the church’s community house fund.
He is survived by three sisters: Mrs. Joyce Stewart May, Mrs. Betsy Stewart Clowney, and Mrs. Lynn Stewart Harryman.
A memorial service will be held at the Old Whalers’ Church, 44 Union Street, Sag Harbor, on Sunday, August 15 at 1 p.m. A reception will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community House Fund at the Old Whalers’ Church.
