New Southampton Town Police Chief Sworn In
Southampton’s new police chief officially started his new post on Monday after having served as a part-time consultant to the town since January.
Police Chief Steven E. Skrynecki succeeds former chief Robert Pearce, who retired last September after serving in the role since December of 2012. Chief Skrynecki is the fifth police chief since the department was established in 1951. He previously served as chief of the Nassau County Police Department since 2010 and has 42 years of experience as a police officer, having risen through the ranks over the years.
“We welcome Chief Skrynecki to the Town of Southampton and look forward to working with him,” town supervisor Jay Schneiderman said in a statement. “He brings with him great experience and keen insight into law enforcement that I believe will be a tremendous asset to the town.”
