A day after Sag Harbor’s 7-Eleven store closed its doors, signs announcing the arrival of the Harbor Shop were placed in the windows on Saturday afternoon.

Adam Potter, the chairman of Friends of Bay Street, which purchased the Water Street Shops, where 7-Eleven as a site for a new theater, said the plan was for the store to be open by Memorial Day. He said additional details would be released at a forum sponsored by Friends of Bay Street Saturday afternoon.

Rumors have been running rampant in the village that Friends of Bay Street are buying up property in the village business district. While few actual sales have been confirmed, Mr. Potter said he had personally purchased the building at 11 Bridge Street, which is commonly called the Dodd & Eder building, and planned to open a convenience store there.

The Village Board, which has been working on a rezoning plan for much of the waterfront had initially indicated it would allow such a use in the Office District, where 11 Bridge Street is located, but later backed off.
