Sag Harbor native and Minor League pitcher Kyle McGowin had his best outing of the season on May 28, tossing seven innings in a 1-0 win for the Arkansas Travelers, the Double-A affiliate for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

McGowin, a top-20 prospect for the Angels, allowed just three hits and two walks, struck out three and lowered his Texas League ERA to 4.66.

McGowin was selected in the fifth round of the 2013 draft after a stellar career at Savannah State University. He is in his third year as a pro, but has struggled over the last two seasons while dealing with an elbow injury. Despite feeling like the elbow was back at full strength, he told MiLB.com recently that his mindset had yet to heal with his elbow.

“”If you’re not mentally locked in, one little bad thing can turn into something worse,” McGowin said told a reporter from the site. “When I started being positive was when I started doing better. I just had to tell myself the past is behind me.”
