Pierson eighth-grader Jack Louchheim, who plays second singles for the East Hampton boys tennis team, won his first two matches in the Division IV tennis tournament over the weekend at William Floyd High School, knocking off Tristan Hughes of Southampton, 6-0, 6-1, in the first round and Josh Kaplan of Westhampton, 6-1, 6-0, in the second round. Louchheim, who was seeded fifth, lost 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals to fourth-seeded Alex Reiley of Eastport South Manor.
East Hampton’s top singles player, Julian MacGurn, advanced to the finals but lost, 6-4, 6-3, to the undefeated top seed, Chris Kuhnle of Shoreham. Both those players will play in the 16-player Suffolk County Individual Tournament starting Saturday at 9 a.m.
The overall Suffolk County Team Tournament began on Tuesday, May 17. East Hampton received a six-seed and hosted the winner of a match between Patchogue-Medford and Deer Park on Wednesday, May 18, at 4 p.m. The winner of that match will play again on Thursday, May 19.
