Quick. Someone knock on wood. The Lady Whalers can’t lose. Knowing they are a lock for the playoffs has apparently not affected this teams tenacity. In their third straight win, the Lady Whalers handed Mattituck a 4-1 defeat on their own turf.
For the second time in as many games Melanie Stafford allowed only three hits, and struck out 11 batters. Ladies and Gentlemen, the girl can pitch.
The Lady Whalers have been consistent offensively this season as well, and Friday’s game was no anomaly. Samantha James went one-for-two with an RBI and Natalie Abbene went two-for-four. If the girls continue to execute in the same fashion through the playoffs, it should be a bright postseason. Melanie Stafford has pitched in every outing so far, so don’t expect to see any deviation from the normal starting rotation, of which there is none.
The Lady Whalers finish out their regular season with a homestand against tough divisional rivals Port Jefferson, followed by two away games, first against Center Moriches on Friday, and then against McGann-Mercy the following Monday to close out the season.
