Going into its 18th year, the Hamptons International Film Festival’s Screenwriters Lab is now accepting submissions from emerging screenwriting talent who seek to be paired with established writers and creative producers for an intensive three-day workshop in East Hampton this spring.
“We seek a broad selection of screenplays addressing a wide subject matter,” according to HIFF. “The mentors advise in a one-on-one creative setting, while additional events bring the participants together with board members, sponsors, the local artistic community and other friends of the festival. With scripts from past writers produced year after year, the Lab continues to be an inspiring and safe place for artists to find and hone their creative vision.”
A number of recent projects in the lab — including Destin Daniel Cretton’s “Short Term 12,” starring Brie Larson and John Gallagher Jr.; “The Discoverers” from Justin Schwartz; Sara Colangelo’s “Little Accidents;” and “Twelve,” written by Jordan Melamed and starring Ellen Barkin and Emma Roberts — have gone on to be produced, distributed and screened at festivals around the world, such as Sundance and South by Southwest.
Workshop dates are April 6 to 8. The following deadlines for submission are: November 28 for earlybird; December 12 for regular; January 2 for late; and January 11 for extended.
