Global design meets curated luxury to satisfy the mind, body, and soul at jewelry designer Stella Flame’s namesake retail store in Sag Harbor. Inspired by her travels, nature, art, and so much more, Ms. Flame’s collections offer a narrative unique to the Hamptons where East End meets West.
“It was like coming back home,” said Ms. Flame of her re-entry to the Hamptons when she and a few friends opened a retail store together, Addō, back in July 2015. A collective showcase of designers on short and long term bases, the Sag Harbor shop served as one of Ms. Flame’s outlets for her jewelry collections. After a summer pop-up in Bridgehampton and a serendipitous moment or two, the opportunity presented itself for her own store, which opened on Main Street in September 2016.
A blend of precious metals crafted with ethically sourced natural gemstones serve as the foundation for Ms. Flame’s pieces. With a small atelier in Istanbul and a production shop in Bangkok, she brings global color, tradition, and hand technique together in the form of rings, earring, necklaces, and bracelets for men and women.
“I began my jewelry design life with a collection that has an East meets West attitude that I often describe as Buccellati meets Constantinople,” said Ms. Flame. “I continue to create new pieces and expand on this collection that is both very pretty and laced with an exotic air.”
While Ms. Flame’s extensive marketing and design background led her from interior and event design to jewelry design eight years ago, her talents lend to her ability to curate a retail space that expands beyond jewelry into fashion, home goods, and even an art space. Contemporary artist Andrew Cotton’s edgy collages of abstracts, iconic vintage images, and urban landscapes are currently on display adding a gallery sense to the store’s aesthetic.
A less common Hamptons offering, Stella Flame carries a number of goods for men reminiscent of an old school haberdashery. “We recently expanded the men’s department,” said Ms. Flame. “There are so many men in the Hamptons, but so few places for men to shop.”
Exclusivity rings true with men’s brands like Mühle and Chicago Comb only available in the Hamptons at Stella Flame. Luxury cashmere lined leather gloves from Gloversville, New York, Parisian body and skincare brand Buly 1803, and of course Stella Flame jewelry are among the men’s extensive offerings as well.
London-based home furnishings brand Andrew Martin International was the perfect fit for Stella Flame, as the company’s range of goods reflect different cultures coupled with the sense of discovering and blending styles and ideas from around the globe. After becoming friends with a United States sales rep, Ms. Flame’s decision to carry some of the products was easy. “Their aesthetic matches mine,” she said.
As for her design process, Ms. Flame returns to her life experiences as her muse. A new collection of botanical themed pieces with small amphibians and reptiles were inspired after discovering a humble antique engravers shop in a quiet corner of Istanbul. “The creatures – often entwined with unlikely florals – had such a tender quality to them I couldn’t stop thinking about them and found myself sketching them constantly,” she said. “Those images resulted in the Beauty and The Beasts collection, as well as my new Blossom and Daytime and Nighttime Garden Series collections.”
Stepping off the sidewalk into Stella Flame is nothing short of a worldly experience found right on the East End. Explore a harmonic blend of western tradition and modern design, luxury goods and fashion for both men and women, and hand selected home adornments at this shop that is cool and anything but common.
