The Hayground School is closed Thursday, March 12 and Friday, March 13, according to a letter sent to parents late Wednesday night by Marcelle Langendal, the faculty chair of the Bridgehampton school.
While the district was closed for conferences on Friday prior to Wednesday night, according to Cheryl Buck, the office manager at the school, according to the letter, the decision to also close on Friday was made “to review and fully inform ourselves about how best to protect our community from the spread of the virus. We also need to spend sustained time studying how we will address any remote learning should we need to be closed for any extended amount of time,” writes Ms. Langendal in the letter to parents and school community members.
According to Ms. Buck, no decision has be made as to whether classes will be held next week.
Hayground is the second school to shutter its does in the wake of news that the first COVID-19 cases had be confirmed in Suffolk County. On Wednesday night, the Sag Harbor School District announced it would close through March 22 out of concern over the same virus, although no confirmed cases have been reported in that school district.
