Pierson High School has named its Class of 2018 valedictorian and salutatorian. They are Leigh Hatfield and Hope Brindle, respectively — two high-achieving, hard-working and involved students.

Leigh is an athlete who has played volleyball and softball and has been named an All-County Scholar Athlete. She has also taken part in Mathletes and the Pierson Women’s Issues Club, and has volunteered for Katy’s Courage and the local volunteer ambulance corps. Leigh has chosen a pre-medical track in college.

Hope is a National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist who has performed in many Drama Club productions. She takes part in Mathletes, heads the Smile Club, of which she was a founder, and is a leader of the Long Island Teen Institute. She plans to double major in political science and English in college.

Both students are diploma candidates in the International Baccalaureate program, a set of rigorous classes designed to challenge students and get them ready for college.
