A popular annual feature of the East End landscape, The Sag HarborFest, returns this September under the aegis of the Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce. The chamber will host an organizational meeting on Thursday, June 26 at Il Capuccino Ristorante.
“This is a long tradition in the village of Sag Harbor, a successor to the Old Whalers Festival,” said Robert Evjen, president of the chamber of commerce.
Many of the events that have become favorites over the years are expected to return again this year, including the children’s fair, the Taste of Sag Harbor, whaleboat races, the farmer’s market and an old fashioned lobster bake, plus walking tours of many of the village’s historic areas.
“It’s a fun maritime festival that celebrates and showcases Sag Harbor,” said Evjen. “From the chamber’s perspective, this is one of our major annual events and caps off the summer season.”
The festival this year will take place over the weekend of September 12-14 and has traditionally involved dozens of the local groups, businesses and organizations who participate in a grand parade down Main Street.
The chamber is inviting all organizations and individuals interested in participating to Thursday’s meeting, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the second floor meeting room at Il Capuccino’s.
