Rock Hard Tile
A trend from the 1990s is finding its way into the bathroom and kitchen design on the East End. Cement tile, with fresh, hand painted designs, are being incorporated into flooring, backsplashes, countertops and tabletops, according to Pat Fruin and Laura Maresca-Santore of the Bridgehampton-based Hampton Design.
The attraction to the material is multifaceted — it has a matte touch, and a warm quality to it, and the designs offer unique patterns to suit any homeowner’s sensibility. While traditional black and white, and black, white and grey patterns are the most common, bolder tiles with blue, yellow, green and red are also available. Using individual tiles together to create a patterned design also ensures a homeowner a one-of-a-kind design feature.
