Katy Graves has been named the executive director of the Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center in East Hampton.
Ms. Graves was superintendent of the Sag Harbor School District for five years before retiring in November 2019. A press release from the center quoted her as saying she looked forward to working with “our youngest learners” and that her family, with whom she’d promised to spend more time, supports her in the next chapter of her career.
The Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center serves children from 18 months to 5 years old. The nonprofit offers both early education and full-day child care five days a week, 10 hours a day and 12 months a year.
After the center’s former administrative director, Maureen Wikane, died last year, the board of directors decided to hire both an executive director and an administrative director. Robyn Mott was promoted to fill the latter position in September, and Ms. Graves was chosen to fill the role of executive director, the center announced on Monday.
“Mrs. Graves’ over 30 years of educational experience, include two decades of building and district administrative leadership, coupled with her lifelong passion for early childhood development and education, uniquely positions her to assume this important role,” Ruth Ann McSpadden, co-chair of the center’s board, said in the release.
