Five candidates will face off for three openings on the Bridgehampton School Board in voting on May 18.
Current board President Ron White is the only incumbent seeking another three-year term. Mr. White is a real estate agent with Saunders Real Estate, who currently has one child in the school.
Two other longtime incumbents, Lillian Tyree Johnson and Douglas DeGroot, will step down this year.
Two former board members hope to return. Jo Ann Comfort, an owner of Comfort Farm, who served one previous term, and former board member Michael Gomberg, a financial advisor with Edward Jones, will also run. Both have children in the district.
Also seeking seats will be Dwight Singleton, who formerly served on a school board in Washington, D.C., and who currently teaches special education and is athletic director for the Wyandanch School District, and Angela Chmielewski, a real estate broker with Corcoran, round out the list of candidates. Mr. Singleton has grandchildren who attend Bridgehampton and is married to Sandra Roberts, a former board member. He said he believed his past board experience would be valuable in Bridgehampton. Ms. Chmielewski has two children who attend the school and said she was dedicated to “cultivating and shaping the future of education in our community.”
Bridgehampton will hold its budget hearing at 6 p.m. on May 5 and register voters from 4 to 8 p.m. on May 11. Voting will take place May 18 from 2 to 8 p.m. in the school gymnasium.
The Bridgehampton Parent Teacher Organization typically holds a meet the candidates night, but a date has not been set yet.
