Entertaining at home is one of the biggest trends to emerge in the last five years, with hosts choosing a dinner or barbecue in the comfort of their own homes rather than a night on the town. Creating the perfect space for family and friends to enjoy an evening is where a builder and designer like William D’Agata steps in.

Based in Quogue, William D’Agata design + build offers clients both design and construction services specialized in creating custom outdoor living spaces. For a recent project, located in Water Mill, D’Agata was asked to create a living space for a young, active family. The result was a 900 square-foot pavilion, largely constructed in Western red cedar, with large blue stone tiles for flooring. Ambient, yet functional, lighting was achieved through the use of recessed and pendant lighting, with a full chef’s kitchen complemented by a bar space for easy entertaining while working in the kitchen. Home comforts, like a large HD television, a hand-constructed, blue stone wood-burning fireplace, complete the pavilion, which also includes an outdoor shower, lavatory and adjacent pool and spa. Infrared heaters in the ceiling give the homeowners an opportunity to use their outdoor retreat well into the fall season, which is arguably the best time of year on the East End.
