Veteran documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles once said, “Documentaries are not diversion but engagement.” For the last eight years, the Hamptons Take 2 Film Festival has engaged documentary film lovers on the East End by celebrating the process behind making memorable documentaries.

“Our mission is to create high-visibility, theatrical venues for talented documentary filmmakers whose works deserve screen time, a second cut or ‘take 2’ as they say in the movie making business,” reads a mission statement on the festival’s website, ht2ff.com.

This year’s four-day festival will take place at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor from December 3-6, with opening day focusing on local filmmakers, including one surprise winner whose film will be screened Friday night at 8 p.m.

A gala celebration will be held Saturday night starting at 6:30 p.m. Full festival passes will go on sale in September at ht2ff.com.
