Land & Sea Gala
The 30th annual East End Maritime Festival opens with the Land & Sea Gala on Friday, September 20, with VIP early access from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and general admission from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., at the Greenport Yacht & Shipbuilding Co., 20 Carpenter Street in Greenport. The benefit for the East End Seaport Museum features local food and drinks, a live auction and dancing. Tickets for seaport museum members are $225 for early access or $125 for the party; nonmember tickets are $250 for early access and $150 for the party.
The parade down Main and Front streets in downtown will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., kicking off a weekend of festivities at the Greenoprt Maritime Festival. The parade will feature merry merfolk, pirates and will also highlight the marine and agriculture industries that support the North Fork as an economic engine.
Explore the Bug Light
On Saturday, The East End Seaport Museum will offer festival goers the opportunity to tour the Long Beach Bar “Bug” Lighthouse off Orient from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The replacement lighthouse for the original “Bug Light,” built in 1870 and destroyed in a fire in 1963, the current lighthouse tour is narrated by the great-grandson of the last keeper of the lighthouse. Taste an array of hearty chowders at the chowder contest, which will be held from noon to 3 p.m. in the Greenport Boat Yard on Carpenter Street.
Classic Boats on Exhibit
A fleet of classic and ice boats will be on display Saturday and Sunday at Mitchell Park , which will host a number of events throughout the weekend including potato sack races, kayak races, Capt. Kids Corner, featuring kids activities and a treasure chest.
