Evan Sherman is a drummer, bandleader, composer and arranger who has played around the world with the likes of James Moody, Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, Cyrus Chestnut, Jimmy Heath, Jon Batiste and Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars — all before the age of 25.

In 2014, he formed the Evan Sherman Entourage Band, which will play a show on Sunday, June 24, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, to benefit the Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center.

The lineup includes Patrick Bartley on alto sax and clarinet, Joy Brown on vocals, Russell Hall on bass, Frank Lacy on trombone and vocals, Joel Wendhardt on piano, James Zollar on trumpet and, on drums, Sherman himself.

He is also this year’s bandleader for the annual Jazz for Jennings Lunch and Concert Benefit, to be held earlier in the day from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at The Water Mill Center, located at 39 Water Mill Towd Road in Water Mill.

Named for the late legendary news anchor, the event honors Peter Jennings’ commitment to the local community and, especially, the Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center. The benefit, now in its fourth year, has raised critical funds to support The Center’s educational, recreational and enrichment programs.

“Jazz for Jennings is the reincarnation of Jazz at Jennings, the benefit for The Center that Peter and I hosted for many years at our home,” Kayce Freed Jennings said in a press release. “I know Peter would be thrilled that the tradition continues, and that the community continues to support this vital gem in our midst and its mission of hope.”

Tickets are $500, and $25 for the Stephen Talkhouse concert. For more information, please call (631) 267-3117 or visit stephentalkhouse.com.
