The national elections are still a year and a half away, but Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst, who announced in May she would challenge freshman Republican U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin, has been lining up the endorsements.

This week, Ms. Throne-Holst, who is running as a Democrat, announced that the Southampton Town Patrolman’s Benevolent Association had endorsed her candidacy. It was the first labor union to offer her its endorsement.

Recently, New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr., himself a former town supervisor, endorsed Ms. Throne-Holst. Earlier, Ms. Throne-Holst’s campaign announced it had received the endorsement of Emily’s List, an organization that backs the campaigns of pro-choice women for political office.

Her campaign has also received the backing of three Suffolk County Democratic committee town chairs, Gordon Herr of Southampton,  Art Tillman of Southold, and Heather Reylek of Shelter Island.

“For the past eight years, Anna Throne-Holst has had an extremely successful record of solving problems and delivering for the Town of Southampton,” said Mr. Herr in a release. “She has been a highly effective champion of the Democratic Party and I know that she will work tirelessly to deliver for the residents of Suffolk County. Without a doubt, Anna is the best candidate to represent this district.”

This week, Ms. Throne-Holst’s campaign, which has been sending out almost daily fundraising requests, announced that it was making progress toward its first quarterly fundraising goal, but tempered that with the news that Mr. Zeldin’s campaign had already raised $457,203 in just three months.

A press release stated that House Speaker “John Boehner and his outside special interest groups have made huge contributions to Zeldin’s campaign because they know he’s vulnerable and want to keep him there. But we’re running a Long Island-first, people-powered campaign, and we’re relying on your grassroots efforts to put Anna over the top.”
