As an artist, Edwina Lucas is growing and maturing. And it has manifested as her first solo show at Ille Arts, “Above and Below,” opening Saturday, July 20, at the Amagansett gallery, located at 171 Main Street.
Though she has shown at the gallery for the past two years, her work from 2017 was mostly focused on the East End landscape — large oils on panels, canvas of green lush woods and trees, magnolias and foggy hidden paths leading to lakes and clearings taking center stage.
Now, she has extended to all environments surrounding her — “her love of water as it reflects on the surface of a pool, in the pool two girls playing are lit from above, their skin glowing from the sun reflected on the bottom of the pool,” a press release said. “Skin tones, reds, blues and a shot of black hair as it flows in the water are all handled with sophistication and restraint.”
The opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., and the show will remain on view through August 13. For more information, call (631) 905-9894 or visit illearts.com.
