Sag Harbor residents were hit with another dose of bad business news this week when Ken O’Donnell announced that his La Superica restaurant would not re-open this spring as it has done every year since 1991. Most who have enjoyed a perfect margarita or a two-for-one burrito night at La Superica know Mr. O’Donnell as a consummate gentleman. Need to host a fundraiser? La Superica was an easy choice. Need a sponsor for your community effort? Mr. O’Donnell, who also serves as a member of the Sag Harbor Village Board, was often ready with a check in hand.
The closing of La Superica adds to the pain still felt from the closing of Conca D’Oro, Sag Harbor’s hometown pizza place, just five months ago. And while rumors swirl about more high-end establishments moving into town, we can’t help but feel the sting of these rapidly changing times and the loss of another local treasure.
