East Hampton Police Apprehend Man Following Foot Chase

A 66-year-old East Hampton man led police on a brief foot chase Thursday afternoon after he allegedly shot a gun inside his house following a domestic dispute, according to a news release issued Thursday by East Hampton Town Police.

Police responded to a house on Oakview Highway at 2:04 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting, but the suspect, Mark Laton, had fled on foot prior to the officers’ arrival. They apprehended Mr. Laton in a wooded area behind his home a short while later, and took him into custody “without incident,” police said.

East Hampton Town Police charged Mr. Laton with one count of second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor. He was later released on his own recognizance following his arraignment.
