Gallerist Janet Lehr has announced she will be closing her Janet Lehr Fine Arts gallery at 68 Park Place in East Hampton on February 28.

A closing bash will be held at the gallery on Saturday, February 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. Lehr has owned and run the gallery since 2014, when she took over from former owner and partner Ruth Vered, who had operated the Vered Gallery in the space since 1983. The gallery has been known for its exhibitions featuring work by many masters, from local artists Willem and Elaine DeKooning to Jackson Pollock, Alphonso Ossario, Wolf Kahn, Milton Avery, William Merritt Chase, Pearl Fine, and others. Over the years there have been numerous parties and openings.

Lehr said she is closing the gallery doors due to the “fall off in East Hampton’s business,” and she is not renewing her lease. She is looking for a new gallery location in the Hamptons.
