Continuing programming complementing its current exhibition, “Clearing The Air,” Southampton Arts Center (SAC) has scheduled a number of studio workshops, wellness events, talks and a special jazz performance for the month of December. These events highlight and strengthen the exhibition’s theme of art as a means for therapy, escape, distraction, elevation, and reflection. Here’s what’s on deck for December…
Studio @ SAC: Figure Drawing Workshop – Fridays, December 3, December 10 and December 17 at 1 p.m.
Working from a live model, artist Linda Capello’s figure drawing workshop will explore techniques of line, mass, gesture, proportion, and foreshortening, starting with short poses and working towards one long pose. Limited availability – registration is required.
Wellness: Sound Meditation – Saturdays, December 4 and December 18 at 10:30 a.m.
Join SAC for a soothing, deeply relaxing and immersive Sound Meditation led by bowl master and meditation DJ Daniel Lauter.
Studio @ SAC: Community Healing Banner Workshop – Saturday, December 11, at noon
Led by artist Mare Dianora, this collaborative Community Healing Project will address how the effects of the pandemic have impacted daily lives and how people are choosing to move forward. Participants will share and work together to create flags for a banner that will be displayed in conjunction with “Clearing The Air.”
Live: Hamptons Jazz Fest with Lew Tabackin Trio – Friday, December 17, at 7 p.m.
Hamptons Jazz Fest Winter Series and Southampton Arts Center present the Lew Tabackin Trio for a special evening of jazz music. Lew Tabackin, flutist and tenor saxophonist, is an artist of astonishing vision. Guests are invited to stay after the show to meet and mingle with musicians. Cash bar available.
SAC’s galleries are open Friday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. SAC is at 25 Jobs Lane, Southampton. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test is required for all events in the theater.
