Bridgehampton basketball star Charles Manning Jr., who helped lead the Killer Bees to a New York State Class D Championship last spring, has transferred to Long Island Lutheran, a basketball powerhouse located in Brookville in Nassau County.

Manning was the tournament MVP in Glens Falls in March, averaging 30 points in two games to lead the Killer Bees to the program’s ninth state title.

Bridgehampton head coach Carl Johnson said Lutheran lost six of its top eight players, prompting the program to recruit other players across Long Island, one of whom was Manning, a senior who played just one season in Bridgehampton after attending Riverhead for his first two years of high school.

“It’s the best move for him,” Johnson said when reached on Tuesday. “I thought after last year he had made his mark and that everyone would be following him already. But that’s just me.”

Bridgehampton still will have a strong team returning come December, with seniors Josh Lamison and Tylik Furman leading the way.
