Martin Architects Renovates a Jaffe’s Home & Studio
Martin Architects PC AIA has completed the renovation of the last home and studio of the Romantic modernist architect, Norman Jaffe. In the heart of horse and farm country in Bridgehampton, and working with the current owners — artist Conrad de Kwiatkowski and his wife, Noemi — Martin Architects improved the quality of the original architecture and restored the artist’s retreat while crafting a space more conducive to modern living. Walter Stachecki, the original landscape architect also worked on the project.
“We chose to edit the materiality and cleanse the volumetric geometry to filter the architecture to simple related forms within an oasis of a Japanese inspired landscape,” Nick Martin, AIA Principal said. “I wanted to celebrate Jaffe’s spirit and energy, and how he captured light, space, and volume.”
Established in 1998, Martin Architects provides licensed architectural and engineering services, interior design, furniture design and production and construction administration. The team offers the skills and experience of a large firm while providing the personal service, motivation, and responsiveness associated with a boutique practice. “This renovation is just one of the important projects Martin Architects will be spearheading in the Hamptons in the upcoming year,” Mr. Martin added.
