Bridgehampton Students Cook Cheese Pumpkin Soup

Bridgehampton students Sarahi Negrete, Montserrat Udave, and Cecilia Calieca serve Long Island Cheese Pumpkin soup at the Hampton Library.

On December 3, students from The Bridgehampton School’s Nutrition and Culinary class, taught by Jenna Mascia, prepared and served Long Island Cheese Pumpkin Soup at the Hampton Library’s Holiday Tree Lighting event. The class chose the Long Island Cheese Pumpkin in honor of “The Long Island Cheese Pumpkin Project” that is trying to revitalize this local variety of pumpkin.

Bridgehampton is in its second full year of Spanish FLES (Foreign Language in the Elementary School) program in kindergarten through fifth grade. Children have Spanish instruction one day a week for 38 minutes of class time in kindergarten through fifth grade. The Spanish curriculum, developed by Marie Bouzos-Reilly, is focused both on Spanish language proficiency and cultural knowledge. Class instruction is primarily in Spanish, with an emphasis on conversation at the earlier levels. The curriculum is aligned to Bridgehampton standards in language arts and social studies.

The Bridgehampton School’s Elementary Student Government is hosting Project Warmth. Project Warmth is a drive that collects jackets, coats, hats, gloves, and scarves for kids and families in need. There will be a blue bin in the main lobby through December 20 for donations.
